Last month, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate extended the much-coveted DLC fighter invitation to Sephiroth, and fans are starting to uncover the character’s full power. As it turns out, the main antagonist of Final Fantasy 7 and fans favorite from the Final Fantasy franchise, Sephiroth can pack one amazing punch. Following a complicated checklist to get everything set just perfectly, the sinister fighter is capable of doling out an unbelievable 59,000% damage all at once.
Sephiroth being added to the already stuffed ranks of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster was announced at The Game Awards last year. The reveal video included one of the most talked-about moments of the night, a shocking scene that seemed to show the silver-haired swordsman skewering one of Nintendo’s most beloved characters, Mario. Not content to feature in one video game during the awards, Sephiroth, alongside his counterpart Cloud, also got the spotlight when Final Fantasy 7 Remake won in the Best RPG category. The newly announced fighter was not done with the limelight though, as Nintendo also went on to air a special presentation in which the game’s director, Masahiro Sakurai, showed off Sephiroth’s new Smash Bros. moves.
It seems that there is still more to learn about what Sephiroth can do within the game. For example, a step-by-step video detailing how the character can achieve 59,000% damage in one hit made by Nintendo Unity. However, landing that perfect shot takes a lot of set up, starting with what move to use. The video insists Sephiroth’s Gigaflare attack is the way to go, explaining that, with the 1v1 multiplayer, this move will get a base of 47% damage. That is simple enough, but to reach the peak performance, the eight-minute-long set of instructions dives into a barrage of necessary options to choose from. From stage to settings, rivals to items, the video clearly lays out the winding path to reaching that astounding, one-hit damage.
While fans are still discovering all of Sephiroth’s secrets, the speculation surrounding which character will be the next to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster has picked up. Recent rumors point to a couple of characters from the Tales of franchise entering the fray. Both Lloyd Irving and Yuri Lowell from Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia respectively are featured in a possible leak concerning the upcoming DLC fighters.
Though characters continue to be introduced into the incredibly large cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it seems fans can never have enough. Though it is unlikely that players will stumble onto Sephiroth’s overpowered move during the course of normal gameplay, it is fun to see these kinds of discoveries.
